Recommended File Types
with links to free versions or viewers
The following is a list of the types of files used in this course. If you do not have the program you can download a viewer for free. If you have an older version of Microsoft Office, you can get a free converter so you can open the 2007 files.
Reminder: MS Office is required by Kaplan.
Please do not post file types other than those listed below to the course, either as attachments to Discussion or to the DropBox. Files not listed below will not be accepted for grading purposes, I may not be able to open them, and neither will your classmates. I recommend posting attachments to the Discussion Board in pdf, but other formats below are acceptable.
If you have difficulties, please ask!
- jpg – picture that opens in most image programs
- gif – picture that opens in most image programs
- txt – Text file, notepad or any other plain text file will open and read it correctly no matter the computer type
- pdf – Adobe Acrobat Reader There are also free PDF printers so you don't have to have a printer and waste paper. I use Primo PDF, there are others.
- doc – MS Word Document
- docx – MS Word 2007
- ppt – MS PowerPoint
- pptx – MS PowerPoint 2007
- ram – Real Player Video
- mov – Apple QuickTime
- swf – Adobe Flash bases movies or applications
Don't forget to make sure your computer and browser pass the checks for BOTH Kaplan KU Campus and MyMathLab(MML) or MyStatsLab(MSL).
